Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report early analysis show the substance was most likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism made him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
